Cathy Wright (choreographer, teacher, performer) attended the University of Utah for her BFA degree and MFA pursuit in Modern Dance, where she shocked peers with her "sacrilegious" compositions. After adventures in Utah and upstate New York she returned to the Twin Cities in 2002. She produced her own concert Dweller on the Threshold in August 2006 at the Bloomington Center for the Arts and has another on the way titled Thrower of Light for the 2009 MN Fringe Festival at the Ritz Theater. Her recent choreography has been performed in numerous Twin Cities venues, some of which include the Walker Art Center's McGuire Theater for the 2006 Choreographers' Evening, the Southern Theater as a part of the 2007 Momentum Series, the Ritz Theater as a part of Renovate and Admittance with collaborator and 2007 Bush Fellow Composer Matthew S. Smith, the Hennepin Center for the Arts, Bryant Lake Bowl, and Patrick's Cabaret. Her choreography has also been performed nationally in Philadelphia, Miami, and Salt Lake City. Wright has performed in dance works by Trisha Brown, Alwin Nikolais, Steve Koester, Ellen Bromberg, Chuck Davis, Sherry Saterstrom and with Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company, Paradigm Dance Project, and Wasatch Dance Collective. She has directed 24 productions at Apple Valley High School and has taught Pre-K through higher education at various schools across the country. More information can be found at mnartists.org/Cathy_Wright. Wright has blogged for the Momentum Series since 2007, and focuses strictly on observation and constructivist interpretation.
