Justin Ayd

Justin Christopher Ayd is the film specialist and projectionist for the Walker Art Center. Previously, he spent thirteen years as assistant head projectionist at Willow Creek, a local mainstream movie house in — where he still assists with 70mm exclusives today. Simultaneously, he is a filmmaker interested in telling stories about the intimate and revealing complexities of human existence, both in narrative and documentary form. He is currently working with his wife and producing partner Jennifer Lillemo Ayd on a feature documentary about the residents of a small town in Northern Minnesota. 

Through Pennebaker’s Lens

D.A. Pennebaker’s Dont Look Back, an influential cinéma vérité look at Bob Dylan’s 1965 concert tour of England, is emblematic of the filmmaker’s career, one that is characterized by observational films in which Pennebaker—whether filming Dylan, John F. Kennedy, or the Clinton campaign—finds himself at the right place at the right time.
