Marcus Hu

Marcus Hu is the co-founder of Strand Releasing. Founded in 1989, Strand Releasing is one of the leading U.S. distributors of foreign language, American independent, and documentary films in the U.S. in theaters, on DVD/Blu-Ray and via Video-On-Demand.

The Strand Generation: Marcus Hu on 30 Years of Cinematic Collaboration

To celebrate Strand Releasing’s 30th anniversary, its cofounders came up with a unique approach: invite filmmakers—including Gregg Araki, Catherine Breillat, and  John Waters—to make one-minute films on their iPhones. In advance of the short works’ Walker screening, Strand co-founder Marcus Hu discusses how the idea came to be and shares secrets of the company’s three decades of success.
