What do you appreciate most about the Walker?

Its artistic vitality and willingness to explore and explain visual, audiovisual, and performance art that sometimes goes way beyond what is familiar to me. I’m a retired transplant surgeon who now works as a consultant, and I find the Walker to be a place where I can lose myself for a few hours and re-emerge rejuvenated and energized.

What do you enjoy most about being a Sponsor-level member?

At my favorite and most inspirational film experience, I got to meet and later listen to Harry Belafonte and watch his film Sing Your Song. It was so enlightening and a privilege to understand better Mr. Belafonte’s career as a singer/actor and his lifelong role in the civil rights movement.

We’ve just entered a new year. What are you looking forward to at the Walker?

Two things leap to mind. First, free member screenings of the Film Independent Spirit Awards nominees. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see what the independents in the industry consider the best films of the year. Second, my friends and I love the After Hours parties. The sheer magnitude of the venue encourages mixing as guests move across and around, like ocean currents. The most fun is seeing such a diversity of people, young and old alike, intermingling, smiling, engaged in conversation. Everyone has a great time.
