Through its decades-long support of operations, special projects, and facility expansions at the Walker, 3M and 3Mgives have helped bring artists and audiences together in new ways. Jesse Singh, senior vice president of marketing and sales at 3M and a member of the Walker’s board of trustees, says, “We are thrilled to be able to work with another organization that fosters the creative spirit. At 3M, we are always pushing forward, and the Walker is a great partner in the pursuit of innovation.”
Since 1948, 3M has encouraged its employees to spend 15 percent of their work time on their own innovative ideas and projects. This policy has led to products such as 3M’s Post-it® note, first envisioned as a bookmark for its creator’s church choir hymnal. Recently, the brand sponsored Rock the Garden, the Walker and the Current’s annual summer concert, collaborating with Mark Wojahn and a team of local artists to create a pointillist mural composed completely of Post-it® notes. Concert-goers were encouraged to add their favorite concert moments to a giant collage, and hundreds of colorful notes later, Post-it® helped make Rock the Garden a fun and memorable event, continuing 3M’s critical and generous support of the Walker.
