Free Verse: Erasure Poetry Festival

Taking cues from the art world, a new breed of poets has been composing by erasing portions of existing texts. The results can be astounding and moving as a commentary on the original and something wholly new. Join us as the poets “reveal” their processes and read their work. Matthea Harvey is the author of three books of poems including Modern Life (Graywolf Press), a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. Her first children’s book, The Little General and the Giant Snowflake, was published by Tin House Books in 2009. An illustrated erasure, titled Of Lamb, will be published by McSweeney’s in May. She teaches poetry at Sarah Lawrence and lives in Brooklyn.

Janet Holmes is author of five books of poetry, most recently The Ms of My Kin (Shearsman), an erasure of The Poems of Emily Dickinson. She is a professor in the MFA Program at Boise State University, where she is also editor and director of Ahsahta Press.

Travis Macdonald’s first book, an erasure of The 9/11 Commission Report titled The O Mission Repo, is available from Fact-Simile Editions. His second full-length collection, Nostradamus, was released by BlazeVox Books in late 2010. He currently lives, works and writes in the Philadelphia area.
