Art historian Hayden Herrera presents an opening-day talk about Kahlos life and art. Herrera discusses ways that the artists self-portraits chronicle the ups and downs of her marriage to muralist Diego Rivera as well as how they also helped her to cope with physical suffering. Kahlos artistic sources, her relationship to Mexican culture in general, and her effect on a number of artists who came of age in the 1980s is also touched upon.
Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Frida Kahlo.
