What do a legal information technology company and a contemporary art center have in common? Over the past 14 years, Thomson Reuters and the Walker Art Center have successfully bridged this seemingly wide gap by collaborating to deliver innovative programs that inspire. In providing financial support, human capital, and guidance, Thomson Reuters has been a true partner to the Walker.
Peter Warwick, a veteran of 25 years in the publishing and information industry, has been a key figure in this partnership. Currently the chief operating officer of the Professional division of Thomson Reuters, Warwick joined the company in 1998 and was a Walker trustee from 2005–2011. He has applied his intuitive business acumen to complex institutional issues and has been a guiding force at the Walker through both good times and the more recent economic challenges.
Asked about his commitment to the institution, Warwick, who is also a member of the Director’s Circle, explains, “Like Thomson Reuters, the Walker is dedicated to global excellence and is itself a world-class organization with a powerful international reputation. I am proud to serve as a trustee for such an important Twin Cities institution.”
In addition to its consistent and generous support of the Walker’s annual fund, Thomson Reuters has since 2008 sponsored the Walker’s presentation of the British Television Advertising Awards. Recently renamed the British Arrows Awards, this popular annual program highlights the best television, online, outdoor, and cinema commercials made by UK advertising agencies and production companies.
As Rock the Garden has continued to evolve, Thomson Reuters returned for its second year as the VIP Skybox sponsor. Since the first of these summer kickoff concerts in 1998, Rock the Garden has grown into a highly anticipated festival attracting an audience of more than 11,000 people. The generosity of companies such as Thomson Reuters helped this festival hit its stride as a summer tradition in the Twin Cities.
Beyond its financial support, Thomson Reuters has also delivered talent to support the Walker’s mission— adhering to its own corporate responsibility statement to “create partnerships in the places where we live and work through volunteering, pro bono services, employee giving, and philanthropy.” Thanks to Warwick, the company created an innovative professional development initiative that placed
a software developer from Thomson Reuters’ staff in the Walker’s new media department. This yearlong program will help the department realize ambitious goals while giving a Thomson Reuters
employee an experience outside their everyday practice.
