From Morocco to Minneapolis: Delta Helps the Walker Go Far

As a Premier Partner, Delta Air Lines greatly assists the Walker in sustaining a global perspective on contemporary art. In 2012, film/video senior curator Sheryl Mousley traveled to Morocco to meet with Yto Barrada, an artist who painstakingly renovated a 1930s movie palace and made it a new hub for community engagement with regional film history. Mousley was able to bring a sense of this vibrant space to the exhibition Album: Cinematheque Tangier, a project by Yto Barrada. “The opportunity to work closely with the artist in her hometown had a great impact on the creation of the show,” says Mousley.

This type of cross-cultural exchange and dialogue directly supports the mission of Barrada’s Cinematheque Tangier. With Delta’s help, the Walker brought the artist to Minneapolis to discuss her work during opening activities for the exhibition. “Having Barrada here allowed us to make the connection between her North African community and ours in a way that would otherwise not have been possible,” says Mousley. “We are deeply grateful to Delta for providing this essential support.”
