Albert Exergian’s Iconic TV series of more than fifty posters mixes the high-minded, abstract, and minimalist style of classic Swiss modernism made famous by the likes of various mid-twentieth-century practitioners such as Josef Müller-Brockmann, Armin Hoffman, and Max Bill with the pop cultural excesses of American television programming. A new resonance is achieved when the designer uses this reductive style to depict the essence of any number of programs, including Charlie’s Angels (pictured as the speaker phone of the otherwise anonymous main character), Weeds (a dime bag of pot), or Dexter (a bloody razor blade). Available through the web from print-on-demand poster service Blanka/Print-Process, Exergian’s self-commissioned designs are intended solely for personal delectation and call upon the viewer’s mental reservoir of knowledge, trivia, and memories. —AB
