Why did you decide to become members?
When we moved from rural Minnesota back to the Minneapolis area about a year and a half ago, joining the Walker was one of the first things we did. We’ve enjoyed this place for years, and appreciate having our imaginations and perspectives challenged. We frequently attend exhibitions and performing arts events so a membership makes sense.
Do you have favorite Walker programs?
David Weeks
I like the music and theater opportunities in the McGuire Theater, with its intimate seating. The performances there are incredibly powerful.
Michon Weeks
I simply like the challenge of attempting to comprehend new works of art that I encounter with each visit.
You are frequent participants at our A Think & A Drink events. What do you enjoy about this program?
David
The drink is a nice lure. I appreciate how the guided tours illuminate and explain the shows. I also enjoy meeting new people and hearing their thoughts and perspectives.
Michon
I like talking about artwork with other members, the artists, and the Walker staff. We have actually made friends by frequently attending.
How do your Walker experiences affect or influence or carry over into the rest of your lives?
David
I have been thinking lately about the importance and power of community. The Walker’s Target Free Thursday Nights and Open Field are amazing. I’m watching and trying to apply what I’m observing into my vocation as a pastor. The Cindy Sherman show is also very intriguing to me, especially its themes around constructed identity.
Michon
The Walker influences me in my studio as a visual artist and as an art instructor. I share what I experience at the Walker with my students. I brought 30 of them to the Walker last November for Student Open House: Identity Crisis and the Cindy Sherman exhibition. The students loved the Thursday-night fun.
