As a long-time supporter of arts and culture institutions in the Midwest and across the globe, the venerable financial services institution Northern Trust understands the vital role art plays in enriching and strengthening communities. These values are evident in the Northern Trust Purchase Prize at EXPO Chicago, the International Exposition of Contemporary & Modern Art, which was recently awarded to the Walker Art Center.

Northern Trust continued to support the Walker with their sponsorship of Pao Houa Her: Paj qaum ntuj / Flowers of the Sky, showcasing the photography of Pao Houa Her. Formally rigorous, yet with a playful invocation of traditional portraiture, landscape, and still life, Her’s work focuses on Minnesota’s Hmong community and the larger Hmong diaspora, exploring themes of migration, displacement, and social and ecological resilience.

“We are so excited to be deepening our relation- ship with the Walker and helping to elevate the profile of an artist like Her,” said Ann Wilczynski, senior fiduciary officer for Northern Trust’s Minnesota office. “Partnerships like these allow us to support and sustain our communities while also investing in the vibrant world of contemporary art and brilliant artists like Pao.”
