Katie Nelson and Jason Shapiro Have Been Walker Members Since 2005

Jason Shapiro and Katie Nelson

What drew you to the Walker?

Jason first visited for a Philip Glass performance around 1989. Soon, he was spending as much time at Walker shows as he was at First Avenue. Katie was taken by the lectures and programs, such as Art School, that accompany exhibitions.

Why did you join?

If we were to list our favorite annual events, the Walker would consistently fill the top slots. Supporting it is a priority for us, plus the benefits, special events, and discounts make it a no-brainer.

You’ve also performed at the Walker?

Yes, Jason played Future Perfect with Ousia and at the preview party for Unfinished History. Katie was with the Minnesota RollerGirls in the National Theater of the USA’s Chautauqua!

What are you into now?

We’re into 1970s French space rock and taiko drumming. In 2014 we hope to do both, at the same time, in glowing chrome outfits.

What do you do when you’re not at the Walker?

We’re both film fanatics and spend as much time as possible at movie theaters. Professionally, Jason is a software architect and Katie is a user experience specialist.

What should we have asked?

“Would you mind holding onto The Cremaster Cycle DVDs for us? We’ve run out of room …”
