Diane and Tony Hofstede first fell in love with the Walker as high school students. The contemporary art center was a welcoming place for the young couple who enjoyed discovering, learning, and exploring as they spent time together. Avid and curious visitors to this day,the Hofstedes appreciate how the museum continues to present work that challenges the way they see the world.
The pair describes encounters with “simple things such as a Campbell’s Soup can, a Wrigley gum wrapper, or a canvas full of nails in the shape of a country” as opportunities to reflect on both daily life and complex issues in eye-opening ways. They recognize that they have “benefitted greatly thanks to the generosity of others and wanted to continue this tradition” by including the institution in their own estate plans. Through this thoughtful commitment, the Hofstedes are paying it forward, ensuring that the Walker will continue to inspire art lovers for generations to come.
