Are you excited for the Spirit Awards?
It’s our favorite time of year at the Walker! The Spirit Awards are a beacon of light in a cold and dreary winter. It’s really amazing the number of high-quality films that are shown each year in an intimate setting for free. You can’t beat it. We really enjoyed Florida Project, Get Out, and Patti Cake$ last year.
Do you have a favorite Walker memory?
Mary: I participated in 600 Highwaymen’s The Fever. Having never witnessed a ‘participatory’ performance, I didn’t know what to expect. I was blown away by the emotions that I felt during and after the show. It was amazing.
Jeffrey: My favorite exhibition so far was Jack Whitten’s Five Decades of Painting. It was incredible how one person could have the creativity and courage to reinvent themselves over and over.
What are you really into right now?
As much as we love the art, it’s the people (artists, curators, patrons, docents, etc.) who really excite us. Their stories are magnetic. We’ve met people, gained experiences, and broadened our world view through the arts. It’s been an avenue for growth both as individuals and as a couple.
