Are you excited for After Hours: Jannis Kounellis in October?
Yes, I love the energy of After Hours parties. Everyone is working together to make it a fun event—the volunteers, the staff, and even the attendees. It’s such a treat to have first access to new exhibitions.
You’re a longtime Walker volunteer. What keeps you coming back?
The first time I volunteer-ushered for the British Arrow Awards, I loved the mixture of families, large groups, friends, and couples on date nights. We all watched these commercials for about 90 minutes, and the shared humanity of laughter, gasps, and quiet recognition of poignant pieces made for such a wonderful evening that I’ve been volunteering ever since.
There are so many opportunities to volunteer, from Rock the Garden to Avant Garden, and there is a role for everyone, whether that’s helping with a children’s art workshop or participating in a performance piece yourself. It’s also fun to see people express themselves through fashion, so I look forward to volunteering at the bigger events and seeing attendees’ creative looks. People can be art too.
What do you love most about the Walker?
The fluidity of the art and space. Sometimes museums can make art feel static or in the past, and I appreciate that the Walker embraces emerging artists and brings forward new ways to express oneself.
