Michael Peterman & David Wilson: Leaving a Legacy through a Planned Gift to the Twin Cities Community
Michael first visited the Walker in 1982, while in Minneapolis for a summer internship, and immediately felt a compelling connection. When Michael moved to Minneapolis permanently in 1983, his first check secured an apartment; his second was to become a Walker member. When David and Michael began dating in 1994, the Walker became a central part of their lives together.
Answering as a couple, they explained why they value the Walker: “It’s the art we love most. The Walker’s incredible permanent collection and compelling exhibitions continually inspire and challenge us. Just as important are the staff and curators who make the Walker special, fostering a welcoming community for those who love art and seek new perspectives on our society.”
Michael and David are members of the Walker’s planned giving society, the Legacy Circle. Through their generosity and foresight, they have included the Walker in their estate plans and are securing the future growth and vitality of the Walker.
“Without children of our own, we think about legacy through the lens of our community. Long after we’re gone, we want others to thrive as we have in Minneapolis. The Walker plays a vital cultural role, enhancing the lives of people who live here—bringing world-class art and diverse artist perspectives to our community, fostering local artists, and providing arts education. We recognize the impact a globally respected contemporary art center can make on a city. Perhaps more than ever, the work the Walker does is vital to our community’s continued cultural growth. Supporting the Walker is one of the most meaningful ways to impact the quality of life in the Twin Cities.”
