Mobile Tech. Games, Artists and Museums.

Julian Bleecker (at the Walker previously with PDPal) gave a presentation at O’Reilly’s Emerging Technology Conference. Unfortunately the talk isn’t webcast but possibly even better is the coverage on We Make Money Not Art. The subject of pervasive gaming has been kicking around on the art/tech weblogs for quite a while, this article is a good jump start into the medium.

Although the buzzword “pervasive” is absent from both of these papers it is good to see mobile programs are being addressed by non-profits in at least two well researched papers at Museums and the Web this year.

Denise Bressler from the Liberty Science Center has a paper about mobile educational programs. The detailing of audience targeting, planning, and maintenance as it relates to institutional spaces is particularly useful.

Peter Samis has a practical explanation of podcasting at the SFMOMA. While podcasting isn’t considered groundbreaking technology in most circles there are still some significant hurdles to deploying effective podcasts in a museum setting and the paper is both thorough and specifically aimed at museums.
