For nearly 20 years, the Walker has provided cultural institutions around the globe with a successful model for engaging young adults through its teen programs. Led by the 10-member Walker Art Center Teen Arts Council (WACTAC), these programs have been infused with the fresh perspectives the students provide. As a result, the Walker has become a safe venue in which teens can ask complex questions, voice ideas and opinions, showcase their artwork, and explore their critical and creative potential.
A key to the program’s success has been the sponsorship of Wells Fargo Bank, which helps provide free gallery admission so thousands of teens can explore exhibitions as a part of their schoolwork, foster their inner artists, or visit with friends. “The support we get from Wells Fargo and its team-member volunteers is vital,” says Laura Robards, Walker teen programs coordinator. “Wells Fargo truly helps make the Walker campus an accessible place for young adults.”
Wells Fargo’s support of the Walker is part of a broader portfolio of community investment. In 2012, the company gave more than $318 million to nonprofits and educational institutions across the country that address vital regional needs and issues. This critical support has left a lasting impact on Walker teen programs, which directly serve more than 6,000 each year.
