Birthdays may come only once a year, but everyone has one. To celebrate the celebration of birthdays, artist Amanda Lovelee invites you to Open Field next Thursday to make birthday cards, dream birthday wishes, and eat birthday cake.
Lovelee is a bona fide Open Field and bartering veteran.

For the inaugural Open Field of 2010, Lovelee staged Trading Love Stories for Wildflowers in which she offered a photograph of a wildflower to every passerby who would write or give a love story to her. The travelling project culminated in a print-to-order book containing a love story archive from each city Lovelee visited. Last year, Lovelee spearheaded Emotional Warming Hut, a Valentine-making extravaganza in which attendees received cookies for making a valentine to-be-delivered to a local nursing home.

Similarly, this year Lovelee will trade birthday cake for birthday cards. Attendees are encouraged to sit down and create a birthday card that will be brought to elders in need of a pick-me-up. On offer will be card-making supplies and birthday cake for those who participate. It Is Always Someone’s Birthday, So Let’s Celebrate! will take place next Thursday, August 23, 2012, from 6 to 8pm.
