Coffee House Press is looking for pitches for next weekend’s Speed Submissions activity on Open Field. How should you prepare? Come with your best and most innovative book idea, and the good editors of Coffee House Press will listen to your elevator pitch. You have five minutes, so hone your best idea accordingly and expect a receptive and convivial environment in which to pitch!
Andrea Satter from Coffee House Press explains that it is really important to their press to meet, host, and hear from the community– diverse authors from various walks of life. Publisher Chris Fischbach adds, “we feel like editors shouldn’t only be behind closed doors, impossible to get to. We should be out in the community, looking for work. We want to be accessible.” During one Speed Submissions session, the editors notably met with a ten-year-old who pitched a book idea in an impressive and sophisticated manner. His mother may have been standing a few feet away, but she did not interact at all with the process.
So there you have it! The “curators” of Coffee House Press are open for the next new thing and look for works with potential. The winner of Speed Submissions is chosen for a one hour consultation in the Fall.
Step on up to Speed Submissions next Saturday, August 25, 2012, from noon to 2pm.
