Paradise Now’s Oscar controversy

Oscar contender Paradise Now is on the receiving end of an anonymous petition requesting that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences withdraw the film’s nomination for Best Foreign Film. The film, which had a premiere at the Walker in October, is accused of glorifying terrorism, according to the petition. Israeli and American Jewish groups also are objecting to the Academy’s listing of the film as coming from Palestine, instead of the Palestinian Authority. Peek has more…
