Why is the Walker important to you?

We are in awe of the great variety. We love the films we can’t see elsewhere, innovative exhibitions, and unique performances, all of which are enhanced by our membership—Contributing member events with artists, gallery previews/tours, opening luncheons, A Think & A Drink, and Film Society. Often the art we experience at the Walker gives us a break; at other times, it exposes us to new points of view. We believe in supporting the arts since they play an active role in our life and are vital in building the society we want to live in.

What’s your favorite Walker memory?

There are so many! Walks in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden; Edward Hooper’s studies and letters; Meredith Monk in performance with Theo Bleckmann; Philip Glass playing The Etudes; and the Coen brothers telling us about a film school idea of theirs—a comedy about China cloning 28 Albert Einsteins.

Tell us about Gather Arts Roundtable.

We wanted to create a monthly gathering where artists and arts patrons could interact casually over good food and drink. We love Gather and first Thursdays have been the perfect setting since Chef Josh Brown has created an atmosphere of collaboration by inviting guest chefs and brewers to share their talents. This is what we hoped for the Round Table too, and exciting artistic partnerships have resulted from our gatherings. It’s been great fun!
