Why did you first join the Walker?
Watching the phenomenal growth and development of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, seeing how it delivers art and nature to everyday folks; enjoying food and drinks in Esker Grove; playing rooftop mini golf; viewing Kara Walker’s work in the galleries; and supporting the continued inclusion of local artists like Seitu Jones and Ta-coumba Aiken.
What do you enjoy about member events?
We love attending together to shake off work stress, escape our labels as mom and dad, and view new exhibitions in an intimate and fun setting. After-hours member tours [like A Think & A Drink] feel special, almost like a social club. Also, what’s not to like about free snacks and a drink or two! The recent member events for Siah Armajani, Five Ways In, and Jason Moran were particular stand-outs
How have the arts influenced your life?
Art explains our history, surroundings, and future paths. It permeates the fabric of our lives-strengthening our bonds and permitting space for exploration. We’ve been unqualified collectors of art in our home (when the price is right!), patrons of theater, and avid promoters of music education. Art, at its best, is nonjudgmental, resists and removes racial boundaries, and, if we take the time to observe, describes our impact on each other and offers a framework for resolution
