Why did you first join the Walker?

I love art in all forms and I absolutely love the Walker. The energy is palpable, the people are engaged, and there’s something for everyone. As a member of the board of trustees, I love the opportunity to invite people to Walker events. Oftentimes these touchpoints are the beginning of their engagement with this wonderful institution.

What is your favorite Walker memory?

Avant Garden in 2016. That event was magical. I served as a member of the planning committee, and we were very intentional about ensuring that the event was an inclusive experience where everyone felt welcome. That night the community celebrated together regardless of age, race, culture, community affiliations, career—nothing mattered. We were community that night and it was so wonderful to see.

How have the arts impacted your life?

The arts are my life. I’ve been everything from a publicist for big Broadway shows to a marketing director for smaller New York theater companies; I’ve worked at the Guthrie and Theater Latté Da; and my fiancé, Ansa Akyea, is a professional actor and educator. I believe the arts give us the opportunity to engage with others in the most meaningful way possible.
