Design Camp is an annual gathering of designers organized by the Minnesota Chapter of AIGA, a professional association of designers. The first convening was the brainchild of designer Tim Larsen and was held under the auspices of the Minnesota Graphic Design Association (MGDA), the precursor to AIGA Minnesota, as the Lutsen Design Conference. Held each fall since 1980 at one of Minnesota’s lake resorts, Design Camp invites creative talent from within and beyond Minnesota to give presentations and to conduct workshops to about 350 graphic designers from Minnesota, the Upper Midwest, and Canada. While its late night socializing and the great outdoors provides a winning setting, the Camp has become a national model for other design gatherings. Each year a different designer creates a poster announcing the event. In 2003, Charles S. Anderson Design created this memorable, yet slightly disturbing, Minnesota north woods scene.
