The French Paper Company based in Niles, Michigan, has been a client of Minneapolis-based designer Charles Spencer Anderson since the 1980s. Over the course of several decades Anderson has forged a close and collaborative relationship with Jerry French, the company’s President. Anderson’s influential designs, which combine a love of American commercial art vernacular with an injection of contemporary color, type, and concept, have become practically synonymous with French Paper. Anderson exploits the papers’ signature color palettes, textures, and weights, which are highlighted and further accentuated through special printing and finishing techniques. Exemplary of numerous promotional pieces for the company, the Mind Over Scatter poster pictured here was the result of hand collaging numerous pieces of paper.
