Designed by Joan Sorrano and John Cook of Minneapolis-based HGA Architects, the Garden Mausoleum at Lakewood Cemetery in Minneapolis represents the most recent structure to be added to the acclaimed setting situated between Lake Calhoun and Lake Harriet. The recipient of numerous awards, the mausoleum, which comprises an above-grade chapel and below grade crypts that are set into a hillside with skylights and views of a reflecting pool and garden beyond, features a strikingly modern form, minimalist detailing, and strategic use of light that creates a bold architectural statement yet serene environment befitting its function.
