Founded by John Christakos, Maurice Blanks, and Charlie Lazor in 1997, Blu Dot designs and retails furniture and interior furnishings. Its Real Good Chair, which is sold as a “flat-pack” design and assembled by the customer, typifies the company’s desire to create more affordable, contemporary design. The $149 chair consists of two perforated, powder-coated metal panels (including a special copper edition) for the seat and back and a pair of crisscrossing tubular metal legs. Perforations allow the chair to be hand-folded along its seams, an idea the company originally created for a series of smaller accessories such as letter trays, caddies, and coat racks in the early 2000s.
