In 1952, Richard S. Davis, a senior curator at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, commissioned Philip Johnson to design a home on Lake Minnetonka in Wayzata, Minnesota. Indicative of Johnson’s early modern work, the striking house features a central, glass-wrapped, sky-lit atrium. The house was purchased in 1964 by Mike and Penny Winton, who would later add a separate guesthouse designed by architect Frank Gehry on the 12-acre grounds.
