Sanborn Canoe Company began in Winona, Minnesota, as a venture among Todd Randall, John, Zak and Greg Fellman, Mark and Michael Boysen and Kevin Kreisel to build their own canoe and paddles in 2009. Without previous knowledge of how to produce either, they quickly learned the craft and drew upon their extensive experience of woodworking and canoeing. Sanborn was born in 2010 with a series of distinctive, handcrafted wood paddles characterized by their use of contrasting red and white cedar that creates a strikingly linear effect along the handle, shaft, and paddle. A limited edition series of artisan painted handles includes colorful graphic accents. Although beautiful art objects in their own right, the paddles are designed to perform well in use as well-balanced, lightweight, thin-bladed instruments.
