Check Out the Action Behind the Scenes at the Walker Art Center's Free First Saturday in October

Visitors get a special look Behind the Scenes at the Walker Art Center’s Free First Saturday event from 10 am–5 pm Saturday, October 1. Featured events include a puppet show of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale One Eye, Two Eyes, Three Eyes, at 11 am and 1 pm in the Cinema. Other events include a chance for kids to get their own headshot taken in the Best Buy Digital Imaging Booth, an art-making activity where participants can make their own shadow puppets, story reading, a film screening, and family tours.

Activities are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Best Buy Digital Imaging Booth: Heads Up!

10 am–5 pm, Outer Garden Lobby
Every rising star needs a headshot! Dress yourself up with fun props—wigs, sunglasses, and hats, and say cheese for the camera.

Puppet Show: One Eye, Two Eyes, Three Eyes

11 am and 1 pm, Cinema
See how a magic giraffe saves a young girl from her two evil sisters in an interpretation of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale One Eye, Two Eyes, Three Eyes. After the show, marionette artist Dawn Swartz, along with Giselle Restrepo and Brett Smith, will show you how they animate their marionettes and work their stage.

Artist fees from this performance will help New Orleans artists Quintron and Miss Pussycat, whose venue and home were lost to Hurricane Katrina. Additional donations will go to the artists and musicians of New Orleans’ 9th Ward.

Family Gallery Tour: Artists’ Secrets
