The Walker Art Center opens its expanded facility and the Twin Cities’ newest cultural icon on Sunday, April 17. Following a Grand-opening Celebration from 9 am-9 pm, the Walker’s new hours of operation will be:
Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday: 11 am-5 pm
Thursday and Friday: 11 am-9 pm
Target Free Thursday Nights
Sponsored by Target, the Walker’s galleries are free from 5-9 pm every Thursday evening and are complemented by a range of other Walker programs. Explore an exhibition, watch a film, make art, and ask questions about art at these evenings made possible by Target. At the launch event for Target Free Thursday Nights, from 5-9 pm Thursday, April 28, enjoy an artist talk by Ed Templeton, DJ beats by Tariq Moody, a Drop-In Art Activity to create mail art inspired by the architecture of Herzog & de Meuron, and Artist-in-Residence Ericka Beckman’s double-screen projection Frame UP.
Open Late on Fridays
All galleries are open until 9 pm every Friday evening.
Free First Saturdays
On the first Saturday of each month, the Walker presents Free First Saturday, a fun-filled day of free films, performances, and art activities for younger visitors and families. Free First Saturdays begin May 7. Media sponsorship for Free First Saturdays is provided by WCCO-TV.
Galleries are closed Mondays except for the major public holidays Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and Columbus Day (open 11 am-5 pm).
