Fun for the Entire Family is Sprouting Up at Garden Grubbers, the Walker Art Center's Free First Saturday Event in August

You won’t have to dig very deep to find family fun at Garden Grubbers, the Walker Art Center’s Free First Saturday event from 10 am–3 pm Saturday, August 4. Featured events include music spinning and a freestyle dance session with DJ Stage One; a salsa workshop led by dancer Bianca van Berkel; a hip-hop dance workshop led by Leah Nelson; art lab activities to start a garden and to create artworks using natural elements and potato stamps; and a tour of the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.

Activities are free and available on a first-come, first-served basis from
10 am–3 pm. Gallery admission is free from 10 am–5 pm on Free First Saturday. In the event of rain, outdoor activities are canceled or moved indoors.

Garden Grubbers

Saturday, August 4, 10 am–3 pm

Art-Making for the Entire Family: Growing Up Green, 10 am–3 pm

Learn how to start your own garden, and take home a planted pot painted by you!

Art-Making for the Entire Family: Garden Collage, 10 am–3 pm

Dip, rub, print, and draw your own landscape using found natural elements and potato stamps.

Dance: Let’s Salsa!, 10 am–12 noon

Grab a friend and count your steps at this salsa workshop led by dancer Bianca van Berkel.

Performance: DJ Selects, 12 noon

Bring your own groove and attitude to this freestyle dance session, or just kick back and relax as DJ Stage One spins.

Garden Tour: Inspired by Nature, 12 noon and 2 pm

Find sculptures that borrow materials and forms from nature.

Dance: Hip-Hop Moves, 1–3 pm

Try out some basic hip-hop dance moves at this drop-in workshop led by Leah Nelson.
