Walker Art Center Presents Screening of John Ford Classic The Grapes of Wrath

On Sunday, January 28, at 2 pm, the Walker Art Center presents a screening of John Ford’s classic adaptation of

The Grapes of Wrath

, based on the novel by John Steinbeck. The film, starring Henry Fonda, is a sympathetic look at the fate of Depression-era farmers who fled the Dust Bowl for what they hoped would be a brighter future in California. The Minnesota Opera has commissioned a production of the Steinbeck novel, directed by Eric Simonson (2006 Academy Award-winner for best short documentary A Note of Triumph: The Golden Age of Norman Corwin), which will open in February. Simonson joins Walker film curator Sheryl Mousley after the film screening for a discussion about the challenges and excitement of adapting The Grapes of Wrath from book to film to opera. 1940, 35mm, 128 minutes.
