Historical fact and fiction blend together in Kara Walker’s work. History is full of such stories that twist the truth and carry the biases of their time. Kevin Gaines, professor of history and Director of the Center for Afroamerican and African Studies at the University of Michigan will address U.S. history and its relationship to anti-black racial stereotypes. Join him for a conversation on these complicated and unsettling issues, and the connections between his work and the histories Walker presents.
