James Beard Award Winner Alex Roberts is July's Guest Chef at Gather

Minneapolis, MN, June 26, 2011— James Beard Award-Winner Alex Roberts, chef and owner of Restaurant Alma and Brasa, will be July’s featured guest chef at Gather, the new restaurant at Walker Art Center. Roberts is the latest addition to the unique chef-driven sampler series at Gather. He will add two new “small plate” items to Gather’s menu. Guests can sample free tastings of his menu items on July 7, and the two featured items will be available on the menu for sale on subsequent Thursday evenings throughout July. On the first Thursday of each month, a new featured guest chef serves complimentary samples and is on site to answer questions. Gather features a happy hour and full bar with an innovative specialty cocktail menu on all Thursday evenings.

Roberts, who was born in New York, but raised in Minneapolis, attended the French Culinary Institute and gained experience working in several renowned New York restaurants including Gramercy Tavern, Bouley, and Union Square Café.

Roberts returned to Minneapolis and in 1999 opened Restaurant Alma, a casual, fine dining restaurant dedicated to a changing menu of seasonal cooking and local foods. Roberts continues to advance his commitment to organic, sustainably produced food and has received numerous accolades in the process including the James Beard Award for Best Chef Midwest in 2010.

Created and operated by D’Amico + Partners, Gather serves lunch six days a week (Tuesday–Sunday, 11:30 am–2:30 pm) and on Thursday evenings (5 pm–9 pm), in conjunction with the Walker’s Target Free Thursday Nights.
