Upcoming Gather by D’Amico Events

Chef-in-Residence: Tyler Shipton

Thursday, April 3, 5–9 pm

Gather by D’Amico

Join chef-in-residence Tyler Shipton, executive chef at Borough and Coup d’ Etat, who shares tastes from his small plates menu, created exclusively for Gather and featured throughout the month.

About the Chef

Tyler Shipton grew up on a hobby farm in southeastern Minnesota and began cooking at an early age with his grandmother, whose football field–sized garden provided fresh produce for cooking, canning, and pickling. Shipton initially pursued a degree in art, then went to culinary school and further to earn a BA in management. As a young, eager-to-learn cook, he had stints at Obento Ya, the After Midnight Group, and later at Porter & Frye (under Stephen Brown). He then worked at Bar La Grassa and Travail. He is the executive chef at Borough, one of Minneapolis’ North Loop’s culinary hotspots, and Uptown’s new Coup d’ Etat restaurant and bar.

July Brewer-in-Residence: Kevin Welch of Boom Island Brewing Company

Thursday, July 3, 5–9 pm

Gather by D’Amico

Sip away a summer evening with Master Brewer Kevin Welch of Boom Island Brewing Company. Gather will be sampling Brimstone Triple, Silvius Belgian Pale and Hoodoo Duble.

Welch is living (and brewing) proof of the power of one really good beer. Late one evening in 2001, Kevin returned home from playing a French horn gig. On a friend’s recommendation, he poured himself his first Belgian beer. “It was a Tripel from the Trappist Abbey of Westmalle,” he recalls. “I took my first sip and couldn’t believe it. There were so many unique flavors, all intricately balanced! They were layered, and evolved as the beer warmed its way across my palate.” As a brewer, Kevin became obsessed with the traditions of Belgian brewing. That’s why, today, you’ll find more than 1.000 different types of beer in Belgium. And now, one authentic Belgian brewery in Minneapolis.
