“Swooningly beautiful…with a staggering 55-minute 3D tracking shot that must be seen to be believed.” —Los Angeles Times
In Bi Gan’s sensational new film, the story of a solitary man (Jue Huang) is experienced on multiple levels, as both real life and in dreamscape. Set in the director’s native province of Guizhou in southwest China, Long Day’s Journey Into Night maximizes cinema’s immersive potential to convey the protagonist’s mental space as well as his physical sensations of longing, regret, and desire. In Mandarin with English subtitles. 2019, China/France, DCP, 140 min.
