THE BANDS

The National
Indie-rock quintet the National has been a playing a brooding, expertly crafted blend of post-rock and orchestral pop for 20 years. Each of the band’s seven releases has garnered new critical acclaim and grown their dedicated fan base.

Courtney Barnett
Australia’s Courtney Barnett is one of the most distinctive and compelling voices in indie rock. The singer-songwriter mixes the poetic, political, and personal, accompanied by her own face-melting guitar and a stellar rhythm section.

X
One of the most influential bands to crash out of LA’s punk movement of the late ’70s, X continues to be sonically groundbreaking today. Songs written during the band’s inception are as relevant and inventive now as they were in 1977.

Heart Bones
Heart Bones is Sean Tillmann (aka Har Mar Superstar) and Sabrina Ellis (A Giant Dog/Sweet Spirit). Inspired by classic duos such as Sonny & Cher and Serge Gainsbourg/Jane Birkin, their influences include doo wop, musical theater, electro dance, and melancholy pop.

Bad Bad Hats
Bad Bad Hats is defined by a balance of sweet and sour. The Minneapolis indie rock band’s music honors classic pop songwriting, with nods to ’90s rock simplicity and pop-punk frivolity. Through it all, unflinchingly sincere lyrics cut to the emotional heart of things.

deM atlaS
The soulful singing voice of hip-hop artist deM atlaS—and his ability to navigate from acidic Sly Stone funk to acoustic balladry to minimalist gospel—make it clear he’s one of the young talents authoring the next chapter in Minneapolis’s storied musical history.

Adia Victoria
Nashville-based Adia Victoria is a Delta blues artist who draws from a deep well of personal experience, world travels, and literary references. Her singularly dazzling sound marries powerful lyrics and electric guitar.

The Beths
New Zealand four-piece the Beths creates high-energy guitar pop with a smart lyrical bite. A breakout year, in 2018 the group signed with Carpark Records, played a world tour, and released its freshman album, Future Me Hates Me.
