Walker Art Center Provides Additional Resources for Nursing Individuals

Lobby of the Walker Art Center.

The Walker has long maintained a commitment to supporting nursing parents and families visiting the museum. Our policies center comfort, safety, and accessibility for all nursing individuals.

Unfortunately, earlier this year, a visitor to our Family Day events had a negative experience at the Walker. Although our policy allows mothers to nurse anywhere in the museum, Megan Mzenga was mistakenly told otherwise and asked to leave one of the galleries. We sincerely regret this error and apologize to Ms. Mzenga for what she and her family experienced while visiting the Walker.

The Walker has taken essential steps to reinforce its commitment to nursing caregivers. Our front-of-house employees have received new training about the Walker’s policies and the resources available for visitors who are nursing children. The Walker has also established a nursing room adjacent to the main lobby and box office area for those desiring more privacy. This convenient location is easily accessible via stairs or elevator.

In addition to the private family lounge area, caregivers continue to be welcome to nurse wherever they feel most comfortable throughout the Walker campus.
