On March 22, artists Jordan Lord and Tiffany Sia will travel to the Walker to share a program of recent films that examine access practices, captioning and audio description, and media literacy. The screening is the museum’s second engagement with Lord following two showings of their film Share Resources in spring of 2023. A discussion with the artists will follow the screening.
March also launches a new film series in the Walker Cinema. Cinema Revived: Timeless Selections from the Vault will offer an ongoing presentation of notable feature-length films from the Ruben/Bentson Moving Image Collection. The monthly screenings begin on March 29 with Vive L’Amour by Tsai Ming-liang; tickets start at $6.

CINEMA IS OF THE MIND ANYWAY: Films by Jordan Lord and Tiffany Sia

Walker Cinema
$15 ($12 Walker members, seniors and students)
How do we read an image? This screening brings together artists Jordan Lord and Tiffany Sia to share recent films that all ask questions about how access practices, such as captioning and audio description, intersect with broader ideas of media literacy, disinformation, and how we account for images that have been lost or occluded from national memory. Followed by a discussion with the artists.
Vive L’Amour by Tsai Ming-liang
Saturday, March 29, 2 pm
Walker Cinema
$8 ($6 Walker members, seniors and students)
Real estate agent May Lin (Yang Kuei-mei) and her street-vendor lover Ah-jung (Chen Chao-jung) crash in a seemingly vacant rental apartment in Taipei, unaware that it is being occupied by burial-plot salesman Hsiao-kang (Lee Kang-sheng). Shot using slow, contemplative movements despite the rhythms of a fast-paced city, the trio individually search for satisfaction and connection in 1990s urban Taiwan. An early example of director Tsai Ming-liang’s exploration of pathos and alienation is brought to life in this new 2K restoration. 1994, Taiwan, DCP, in Mandarin with English subtitles, 118 min.
