Walker Forum: Art x Social Change with Amplifier and Gregg Deal

Walker Partner-level members are invited to join us for a virtual meeting as we reflect on the role of art in this unprecedented era with Amplifer Executive Director Cleo Barnett and artist Gregg Deal (Pyramid Lake Paiute).

Amplifier is a national design lab that builds art to amplify the voices of grassroots movements. Together with their community of partners for social change, in both the for-profit and nonprofit world, they build symbols, language, and distribution strategies that shift the national narrative. Drawing from a diverse portfolio of artists such as Shepard Fairey, Hank Willis Thomas, Jess X. Snow, Molly Crabapple, and Gregg Deal, they commission new art, then distribute it in unparalleled numbers through creative space hacks, reaching broad audiences and fostering lasting change.

Gregg Deal is a provocative contemporary artist who challenges Western perceptions of Indigenous people, touching on issues of race, history, and stereotypes. Through his work—paintings, murals, performance art, filmmaking, and spoken word—Deal critically examines issues and tells stories of decolonization and appropriation that affect Native country. He has been heavily involved with the media activist movement #changethename, the recently successful effort to change the name of Washington Football Team. Visit greggdeal.com for more information and watch Deal’s TED talk online here.

Thanks to the ingenuity of James Beard Award–finalist Chef Jamie Malone of Grand Café and Eastside, we are pleased to offer our first catered virtual event. Patrons’ Circle–Partner and Director’s Circle members may enjoy Le Snackie, a bountiful box of gourmet tapas and artisanal cocktail mixers curated by Malone.

RSVP by August 5 to order your complimentary catering and confirm your participation in this Zoom event.
