Description
CDF1-27 DECOR: Cotton canvas drop with painted dots in a variety of bright colors. Original drop has tan base. Revival has neutral canvas colored base and is larger in scale than original. FIRST PERFORMANCE: Eleventh American Dance Festival, Connecticut College, New London, CT; August 17, 1958. FIRST NEW YORK CITY PERFORMANCE: Phoenix Theatre; February 16, 1960. ORIGINAL CAST: Merce Cunningham, Carolyn Brown, Viola Farber, Cynthia Stone, Marilyn Wood, Remy Charlip. ADDITIONAL HISTORY: Summerspace was also revived and remounted on the Theatre du Silence (1976, La Rochelle, France) and 3 ballet companies: New York City Ballet (1966); Cullbergbaletten (1967, Stockholm, Sweden); Boston Ballet (1974). MUSIC: Morton Feldman, Ixion (commissioned)
