Description
The Beuys work is adhered to p. 4 of the book The Archives, Art Information Centre Peter Van Beveren. It seems that the envelope is based on an earlier work, Sekretärstasche, 1976. The two printed reproductions (on wrapping/kraft paper) inside the envelope are based on the drawing Urschlitten mit Totengeistern, 1966 (Primeval Sleds with Spirits of the Dead, 1966.) See p. 478 of 1992 Schellmann catalogue raisonné. Some excerpts from the offset text on p. 31 of The Archives: "This book has been published on the occasion / of the exhibition The Archives/Art Information / Centre Peter Van Beveren, held in the / Provincial Museum at Hasselt/Belgium from / 31.1 through 15.3.1981. / Contents realized in a limited edition of 500 / numbered copies by the Provinciaal Museum / Hasselt in close cooperation with the artists. / Outer cover and binding, Lannoo/Tielt. / The first hundred copies are signed by Peter / Van Beveren." In offset at LM, p. 31 "© Provinciaal Museum Hasselt België / D-1981-0542-1" In statement by Peter Van Beveren printed in offset on p. 1 he indicates that this book is an "artist book instead of a catalogue. Thirty artists were invited to design one page, specially for this book. . . . They made this book a unique document and work of art . . . it is representing the character of my archives." . . .
