Collected and stamped during a lecture by Beuys at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design on his first USA journey in 1974. A student had thrown the leaflets as part of an intervention. Although this work is dated 1977, the 1985 Schellmann catalogue raisonné says that it is the same as Surrender I (1974, accession #92.309) except that this1977 work (accession #92.313) has shoe polish smears on the left edge, and the FREE INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY stamp, rather than the Hauptstrom stamp.
