Amy Taubin

Amy Taubin is a contributing editor for Artforum, Film Comment, and Sight and Sound magazines. A member of the selection committee for the New York Film Festival since 2012, she’s a member of the National Society of Film Critics and the New York Film Critics Circle. Her book, Taxi Driver, was published in 2000 in the British Film Institute’s Film Classics series. She coauthored the monograph James Nares (Rizzoli, 2014), and her critical essays are included in many collections, including Scalo's Frank Films: The Film and Video Work of Robert Frank. Taubin wrote for the Village Voice from 1987 into 2001, both as a film and a television critic, and penned the paper's “Art and Industry” column on independent filmmaking. Her writing has also appeared in the New York Times, the New York Daily News, LA Weekly, Millennium Film Journal, Harper’s Bazaar, and others. She has a BA from Sarah Lawrence College and an MA in cinema studies from NYU. The video and film curator of The Kitchen from 1983 to 1987, she currently teaches at the School of Visual Arts.
