DaNCEBUMS

Margaret Johnson, Kara Motta, Eben Kowler, Maggie Zepp, and Karen McMenamy met as students in the University of Minnesota’s dance department, and have collaborated in various configurations since 2011. Tightly bonded by friendship, they lived together at 601 Broadway St NE. During their two-year residency in this home, they produced a trio of original dance theater performances in their single-car garage. DaNCEBUMS is a new name for a long-standing partnership. Since 2013, DaNCEBUMS have been performing thoughtful and provocative dance work in the Twin Cities. Their collaboration is based on mutual love and respect for each other, systems of support, and togetherness. DaNCEBUMS have presented their work at Bryant-Lake Bowl, The Southern Theater, Kitty Cat Klub, The Crowles Center for Dance, Public Functionary, Icehouse, Red Eye Theater (Works-in-Progress-2014, New Works 4 Weeks-2015), Minneapolis Theater Garage (MN Fringe Festival 2014), 7th Street Entry, the Lee & Rose Coliseum at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds (as half-time for the MN Roller Derby), on live television for TPTs Takeover series with Black Label Movement, the Swedish Institute, and Walker Art Center’s McGuire Theater (Choreographer’s Evening 2015). Currently, DaNCEBUMS is putting their efforts toward being a dance band, performing in clubs, bars, and music venues and teaching monthly master classes. Keep your eyes peeled for our 2017 class schedule and a springtime residency in April 2017 at the Icehouse in Minneapolis.
