Greg Tate is a writer and musician who lives in Harlem. Staff writer at the Village Voice from 1987 to 2003, Tate is the author of seminal works including Flyboy in the Buttermilk: Essays on Contemporary America (1992), Flyboy 2: The Greg Tate Reader (2016), Everything but the Burden: What White People Are Taking from Black Culture (2003), and Midnight Lightning: Jimi Hendrix and the Black Experience. A founding member of the Black Rock Coalition, Tate also leads the conducted improvisational ensemble Burnt Sugar The Arkestra Chamber, which in 2019 will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in the game.
