Shalini Gupta

Shalini Gupta is a writer, researcher, and environmental justice activist. Her work is centered on solutions to our ecological crises that are grounded in people and place, and our economic and social histories. A past Bush Leadership Fellow, Shalini was the cofounder/former executive director of the Center for Earth, Energy, and Democracy. She holds a BA in the Geophysical Sciences from the University of Chicago and a Masters in Environmental Management from Yale University. She is currently working on a book series through the Loft Literary Center’s Mirrors and Windows program.

Bearing Witness: A Story of Life in Chernobyl's Aftermath

Reflecting on the daily lives of Nadia and Pétro Lubenoc, the octogenarian couple at the center of the film/theatrical installation Zvizdal [Chernobyl, so far—so close], environmental justice activist Shalini Gupta considers issues of connection, environmental accountability, and place sparked by their refusal to leave their rural Ukrainian village inside the Chernobyl exclusion zone.
